Beautiful Mindanao

facebook google twitter tumblr instagram linkedin
In the midst of the lush beauty of Mindanao, lies a hidden gem that captivates the senses and leaves a lasting impression on all who have the privilege to visit. A place that feels like a dream, where swimming with the fishes becomes an ethereal experience, and where the scent of pineapples fills the air like a sweet, tantalizing melody.

As a participant of the Soccsksargen Experience tour, we were treated to a day of wonder and awe as we journeyed to the DOLEFIL Clubhouse in Kalsangi. A place that truly lives up to its name, as it is home to the largest pineapple plantation in the entire country, sprawling across a staggering 12,000 hectares. The sight of this vast sea of pineapples is enough to make anyone feel like they've stepped into a paradise of golden fruits.

As we arrived at the Kalsangi Clubhouse, nestled amidst a family of pine trees that reminded us of the charming Baguio City, we were struck by the sheer grandeur and exclusivity of the place. This private haven is reserved for DOLEFIL employees and their esteemed guests, making us feel incredibly fortunate to have been granted access on this day.

Beyond the picturesque landscapes, what stole our hearts were the delectable snacks that awaited us inside. Platters of freshly sliced pineapples, glistening with succulent juices, beckoned us to indulge in their sweet and tangy flavors. Alongside this tropical delight, we savored palabok and clubhouse sandwiches, a culinary fusion that left our taste buds in a state of sheer delight.

As we relished the scrumptious treats, Gwynee Ebol of Dole Philippines graced us with her insights into the world of DoleFil. We discovered their dedication to supporting local farmers in planting pineapples, uplifting communities through tree-planting initiatives, and donating much-needed classroom chairs. Their heartwarming efforts even earned them an esteemed award, recognizing their commitment to social responsibility.

If you ever desire to embark on a journey to the Kalsangi Clubhouse, you must seek out a DoleFil regular employee to secure a coveted get pass, for this oasis is not open to just anyone. But once you have the pass in your hands, you can rest assured that the experience will be nothing short of extraordinary.

Destination #3 of Day 1 of Soccsksargen Experience Tour Part Deux (SEX Tour II)

Day 1 of the Soccsksargen Experience Tour Part Deux (SEX Tour II) was already an unforgettable adventure the whitewater tubing in Maitum, and our next destination in Kiamba made it even more captivating. After an exhilarating whitewater tubing experience in Maitum, we found ourselves at Kiamba Children's Park, a spot that offered a delightful surprise.

As we savored our lunch at an elevated spot, a breathtaking view of the beach and the charming town of Kiamba unfolded before our eyes. The park's serene ambiance, surrounded by vibrant flowers and stunning landscapes, made it the perfect place to relax and bond with family and friends. The highlight was the mini zoo, where we met fascinating creatures like birds, snakes, and turtles. It was a delightful experience, especially for the kids in our group, who were enthralled by the diverse wildlife.

But the excitement didn't end there. We soon embarked on a journey to Tuka Sanctuary, a pristine white-sand beach that quickly captured our hearts. As someone who joined the SEX Tour, I was thrilled to discover that Tuka Sanctuary was one of the best-kept secrets of undeveloped white-sand beaches in the region. The sparkling crystal-clear waters lured us to dip our toes in the sea, feeling the soft sand beneath our feet.

The picturesque four coves of Tuka Sanctuary provided the perfect setting for a relaxing picnic, surrounded by the tranquil sea on one side and lush mountains on the other. It was a slice of paradise that seemed almost untouched by time, giving us a glimpse into the natural beauty that Mindanao has to offer.

For water sports enthusiasts, Tuka Sanctuary was a dream come true. The abundance of marine life and various species of fish beckoned divers to explore the depths of the ocean. I was tempted to try diving myself, but alas, my lack of swimming skills held me back. Despite that, the thrill of adventure and the joy of seeing my friends indulge in water activities filled me with happiness.

Amidst the splendor of Tuka Sanctuary, we learned about the pressing challenges the beach was facing. The crown of thorns was attacking the vibrant corals, causing damage to the delicate reef ecosystem. Our hearts sank at the thought of losing such a precious treasure, but we were determined to make a difference.

Our guides, Michelle Solon and the Kiamba Tourism Council showed us how we could contribute to the preservation of Tuka Sanctuary. Together, we could be the guardians of this pristine paradise, working towards its conservation and protecting its precious marine life.

Reaching Kiamba from General Santos City was a breeze, with vans or motorcycles as the main forms of transportation. The Tuka Sanctuary was accessible via a motorboat, and the journey itself was a thrilling experience that added to the allure of the destination.

As the day drew to a close, we left Kiamba and Tuka Sanctuary with hearts full of gratitude and a deep appreciation for the beauty of Mindanao. Our journey had only just begun, and we knew that the days ahead would be filled with even more adventures, surprises, and encounters with the wonders that Beautiful Mindanao had to offer. So join us on this journey, as we continue to explore, experience, and cherish the magic that lies within the heart of Mindanao. Let Beautiful Mindanao be your ultimate guide, leading you to a world of beauty, culture, and adventure that will forever leave its mark on your soul.

Day 1 of Soccsksargen Experience Tour Part Deux (SEX Tour II)

When it comes to whitewater river rafting, Cagayan de Oro is a crowd favorite. However, if you're looking to try something new, the white water tubing experience at Pangi River in Maitum is a fantastic alternative. As travelers, we often crave extraordinary adventures, and I assure you—this activity is worth every minute.

Who wouldn’t want to experience the thrill of water tubing amidst such stunning natural beauty? Adding this activity to our itinerary, thanks to our ever-reliable organizer Avel Manansala, injected more excitement into our SEX (Soccsksargen Experience) tour. After a hearty breakfast at Cresing’s, we set out for Pangi River with our cheerful guides, Tourism Operations Assistants Arnelito Ramirez (0918-6133022) and Arlex Narte (0919-3738007).

The day was perfectly sunny, and the sight of the rushing rapids heightened my anticipation for this new adventure. Our group was a lively bunch, with some seasoned bloggers playfully teasing us first-timers. They joked that if we ended up with broken bones, we had a doctor and a nurse with us, and if anyone lost a tooth, there was even a dentist on hand. Their humor kept the nerves at bay, and all I felt was pure excitement.

Following a brief but comprehensive safety briefing, we geared up, ready to conquer the rapids. Though I didn’t count the exact number of rapids, the thrilling ride took us about 30 to 45 minutes, covering a 1.6-kilometer stretch of the river.

My guide assured me that I wouldn’t fall off the improvised floater, but the adventurer in me wanted to let go and fully immerse in the experience. I even considered jumping into the water, but my petite frame made my guide chuckle at the thought—he could easily carry me. While falling into the water wasn’t part of my plan, I couldn’t help but imagine how exciting it would be.

Beyond the exhilarating white water tubing adventure, Maitum has plenty more to offer. Among its must-visit attractions are the Bat Sanctuary, home to thousands of endangered bats; the Pawikan Sanctuary, where you can see Hawksbill, Green, Olive Ridley, and Loggerhead turtles; and the serene Twin Falls in Barangay Bati-an. For the more adventurous, there are opportunities for diving, trekking through lush forests, and exploring caves teeming with exotic flora and fauna.

If you’re ready to take on the 1.6-kilometer tubing challenge, Pangi River is located in Brgy. New La Union, Maitum, Sarangani Province, just a few hours away from General Santos City. For only ₱130, you can enjoy an unforgettable 30-minute white water tubing adventure.

Destination #2 of Day 1 of Soccsksargen Experience Tour Part Deux (SEX Tour II)

After a short visit in Museum, we (bloggers) headed to Cresing's for our breakfast. They served a variety of organic foods and there was really an eye-opener. We began our meal with a roasted brown rice with turmeric and lemongrass tea while our host gave us an overview of each meal. The tea is served in hot or cold drink, but I preferred the cold one as I loved the calamansi and honey added to it.

Heavy Breakfast

Salted Eggs with Tomatoes

The combination of roasted brown rice, turmeric, and lemongrass is packed with healing ingredients. Brown rice has Manganese for the immune system and blood sugar balance; the turmeric has medicinal properties for various illness and even psoriasis and different forms of cancer; lemongrass has a great healing effect for cancer patients. I felt no guilt at all, even that I overdosed myself with these healing benefits in just one sitting. :D

Organic Black Rice

After this, they served organic rice (black, brown and white rice), salted eggs with tomatoes, ginataang suso, pritong bangsi (flying fish) and the fresh vegetable salad. Honestly, it is so difficult for me to remember all the names of herbs combined with every food. All foods were delicious, but I ate a lot of salted eggs and pritong bangsi.

Organic Brown Rice

As our first meal for day one of Socksargen Experience Tour (SEX Tour), I was impressed to experience organic foods and found a new enjoyment even for the familiar foods, maybe because of the health benefits info that accompanied the meal.

Pritong Bangsi (Flying Fish)

I highly recommend that do not leave Maitum without having a taste of the salted eggs and the bangsi. Regrets that I didn't take home some of their products, especially the turmeric and lemongrass tea. Well, there will always next times, for I will visit this place again and again.

The host of Cresing was so friendly and entertaining. In fact, they never get tired of answering all our questions, from the tea, the process of making salted eggs, the price of organic rice, and a lot more.

Going to Cresing's Food Products is so easy. It is located at Purok Namnama, Maitum Sarangani Province. Contact Cresing's at +63919-3045279 or ferminc.rivas@hotmail.com if you want to experience their salted eggs, bangsi, organic rice and other processed food products.

Photos were taken from DabawPinoy's Product Sampling at Cresing's & KusinaMaria's Breakfast at Cresing's.
