Tourist Spots in Malungon, Sarangani Province: The Ultimate Guide
Greetings from the rolling hills of Malungon!
Having lived here for over 30 years, I think it’s about time I start promoting my hometown—not only the existing tourist spots in Malungon, but also its untapped potential destinations.
Malungon, a landlocked town in Sarangani Province, has what it takes to become a thriving tourist hub. Though many have yet to discover its natural wonders, Malungon is definitely a great place for nature trekking, thanks to the scenic beauty it offers.
One of its highlights is Datal Bila Waterworld, a 20-hectare land development located in Barangay Datal Bila, near Mt. Matutum Nature Park. Nature lovers will surely appreciate this area, which is home to more than 91 endemic species of flora and fauna.
You might also want to go trekking to Busagan Falls—a favorite among backpackers and dirt bike riders. The trail to the falls offers an adventurous journey through the interior mountains of Barangay J.P. Laurel, Malungon.

When most people think of tarsiers, they think of Bohol. But tucked away in the quiet mountains of Malungon, Sarangani, lies a hidden gem that only a few adventurers know—the Nanima Watershed in Sitio Ariston, Barangay Poblacion.
Nestled just below the breathtaking Kalon Barak Skyline Ridge, this lush sanctuary is home to the elusive Philippine Tarsier, one of the world’s smallest primates. Unlike in other parts of the country, here, the tarsiers aren’t just wildlife—they’re revered. The Blaan and Tagakaolo tribes, the indigenous stewards of these lands, consider these tiny creatures sacred, a symbol of nature's delicate balance.
But the Nanima Watershed is more than just a haven for tarsiers. It’s a thriving ecosystem that shelters Philippine eagles and other endangered species, quietly thriving among the trees. Spanning 283 hectares of reforested land, it’s a living, breathing testament to conservation—rich with endemic tree species and blessed with natural springs that provide clean, potable water to nearby communities.

Kalonbarak Skyline: Malungon's Own Version of Tagaytay
If you're looking for cool mountain air, breathtaking views, and a peaceful escape, Kalonbarak Skyline in Malungon might just be the next destination on your travel list. Often compared to Tagaytay for its altitude and charm, Kalonbarak sits 750 feet above sea level, offering a panoramic view of Mt. Apo, Mt. Matutum, Sarangani Bay, and even Davao Gulf on a clear day.
But Kalonbarak is more than just a scenic overlook. It’s a sacred home to the Sarangani Tarsiers and a cultural heartland where three Blaan tribal villages reside. Soon to be launched as an eco-cultural tourism project by the municipality, this area will give visitors more than just photo opportunities—it will offer deep cultural immersion. Travelers will have the chance to learn directly from the indigenous people about their sustainable practices, traditions, and way of life passed down through generations.
Aside from Kalonbarak, Malungon is also dotted with other hidden gems. Make time to explore JND Integrated Farm Institute Inc., Pacman Farms, Sitio Rancho and Sky Nature Park, and Busagan Falls.
If you're a nature lover or foodie, don't miss the banana and pineapple plantations, mango farmlands, and the charming Community Museum and Home of Living Traditions, where local heritage comes alive.

Malungon: Where Mountains Bloom and Pomelos Thrive
Tucked away in the heart of Sarangani, Malungon may not have white-sand beaches or coastal views, but it offers something just as captivating—rolling bushlands, stunning land formations, and hidden waterfalls that awaken the soul of every traveler seeking nature off the beaten path.
One stop you shouldn’t miss is the B3 Soddaco Farm in Upper Mainit, Malungon. Known for its succulent seedless pomelos, this farm supplies some of the most popular supermarkets across Mindanao. As you walk through rows of fruit-bearing trees, you’ll not only experience the freshness of Malungon’s agricultural pride—you’ll taste it.
But there’s more. Every March to early April, the farm transforms into a pink paradise with the blooming of Tabebuia Rosea—a tropical tree often mistaken for the cherry blossom because of its delicate, trumpet-shaped pink flowers. For a few weeks each year, the vibrant blooms create a breathtaking scene, perfect for dreamy photos and peaceful strolls under a floral canopy.
